Ultrasonography is an invaluable, non-invasive diagnostic tool, which allows us to diagnose conditions that are not visible on radiographs, and might be missed otherwise. This state-of-the-art diagnostic tool enables us to explore the abdominal and thoracic cavity, non-surgically, to look at the various abdominal organs including the liver, kidneys, adrenal gland, spleen, pancreas, stomach and intestines, the bladder, heart, lungs, and in early detection of pregnancies in small animals. Sometimes pathology will not be evident on radiographs and lab work, and this tool allows us to examine these organ systems in another manner. Ultrasound can sometimes even be used to “guide” us in a biopsy procedure of an organ system. We recently purchased one of the premier ultrasound systems available in small animal medicine, and are constantly taking continuing education to better ourselves in the use of this important diagnostic tool.
